Ceftriaxone is marketed under a brand name called as Rocephin.
This drug is used to cure bacterial infections. Ceftriaxone acts by preventing the formation of bacteria’s cell wall so that the cell wall gets ruptured resulting in the death of bacteria.

Ceftriaxone Drug Interaction Side Effects (Due to Reaction with Other drugs)-

- Calcium containing IV medicines such as-
- Ringer’s solution
- Parenteral nutrition
Severe and sometimes fatal kidney and lung problems occur, particularly in newborns when any of the above mentioned drugs is taken with Ceftriaxone due to drug interaction.
- Aminoglycosides (such as- gentamicin)
- Cyclosporine
- Anticoagulants (such as- warfarin)
- Heparin
Ceftriaxone may increase the risk of above listed medicines’ side effects.
- Certain live vaccines such as-
- BCG
- oral typhoid
Ceftriaxone may reduce effectiveness of above listed vaccines.
Ceftriaxone Prolonged Use Side Effects (When Used for Longer Periods)-
Repeated or prolonged use of Ceftriaxone may cause a second infection. Notify your medical healthcare provider if symptoms of a second infection appear. Your medicine may need to be changed to diagnose the problem..
