This drug is sold under a brand name known as Claforan. Cefotaxime kills the bacteria in 3 stages-

  • Makes the cell wall weak
  • Rupture the cell wall
  • Kill the bacteria

Cefotaxime is used to cure infections caused by bacteria or to prevent bacterial infections before, after or during some surgeries.

Cefotaxime Drug Interaction Side Effects (Due to Reaction with Other drugs)-

Drug interaction occurs when the outcome of a specific medicine is altered when it is taken in combination with another medicine, alcohol, tobacco or with another food results in negative effects. Inform your doctor if you are having-

  • Heparin– the risk of its unpleasant effects, like risk of bleeding, may be increased by Cefotaxime
  • Aminoglycosides (such as- gentamicin)- the risk of kidney side effects may be increased
