Aging

Here is what happens when antioxidants are taken with other drugs?

Antioxidants are compounds that work to protect our skin from the free radical molecules which harm our skin and cause various skin problems like eczema, psoriasis, skin inflammation, etc. Free radicals are also responsible for causing signs of aging and fine lines on the skin causing premature aging in people. Free radicals are believed to cause various cancers like skin cancer, prostate cancer etc.

However, antioxidants work to fight these free radicals and protect our skin from harmful factors. They oxidize the harmful free radicals and protect our skin. Antioxidants play a vital role in hair loss treatments and various other health care issues.

Antioxidants are available in nature in various forms. Natural food products, plants and animals are vital sources of antioxidants and are proven to cause no side-effects. But consumption of natural food products isn’t enough to fulfill body’s complete antioxidant requirements sometimes. In this case, we need to rely on the consumption of antioxidant supplements.

Antioxidants are available in various supplementary forms in the market, but they are supposed to cause various side-effects just like other medical products.

Vitamin-E is a famous antioxidant. It is available in the form of supplements too. However, if consumed with anticoagulant drugs i.e. blood thinners, it may cause health hazard like excessive bleeding of wounds.

Use of anti-oxidants on the epileptic patients who are treated with anti-epileptic drugs triggers the effect of antioxidants levels in brains and neurons.

Anti-Hypertension Drugs are used in the case of renal injury. The use of glutathione antioxidants is proven to help in the recovery of renal injuries but superoxide dismutase(SOD) and catalase antioxidants are ineffective.

The use of antioxidant supplements along with cancer treatment drugs is controversial. Some researches consider the use of antioxidants while cancer treatment to cure it while some researches consider it to be harmful to cancer patients.

However, the consumption of any kind of antioxidant with any kind of drug should always be done after the advice of a medical professional as various drugs have various effects on various antioxidants. Also, antioxidant supplements can contain various elements along with the antioxidant molecules that can react with drug chemicals and can even be hazardous and toxic sometimes.
