Loss of Memory:
Forgetfulness is a common symptom of aging. Multitasking becomes difficult as one grows older. Decline in cognitive function is also observed in elderly. Diseases like dementia sets in. Care must be taken for Alzheimer’s disease, which is marked by the inability to learn and retain information. Around 1 out of 8 people in their 70s have Alzheimer’s, and around 45% of people in their 80s face this condition. Aging causes changes in brain size.
It is believed that aging shrinks the size of the brain. The shrinking of gray matter is due to nerve cell death. White matter starts developing lesions. There exists a strong relation between increasing age and changes in the brain. It is therefore recommended that healthy lifestyle must be followed to prevent brain aging. Plaques (unusual clusters of protein fractions) also form in the brain.
