Controls the cholesterol levels
There are two kinds of cholesterols in our body i.e. HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) and LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein). LDL or bad cholesterol gets deposited in the arteries and blocks the flow of blood, this might result in various cardiovascular diseases and heart problems. However, HDL or good cholesterol works to remove LDL from arteries.
Cholesterol imbalance is common after reaching a certain age. However, aging is considered as a reason behind imbalance of cholesterol levels in body. Yoga helps in improving the HDL level in body and protects the body from various harmful factors.
Increases the level of melatonin
Melatonin is a hormone produced by pineal gland and has antioxidant properties which help it to function as an anti-aging compound. High level of melatonin is the sign of a healthy body. Yoga and meditation are proven to increase the level of melatonin in body and fight the signs of aging.
Balances metabolic rate and body temperature
Aging results in the reduced metabolic rate of the body. Being a physiological activity, yoga practices require a lot of energy, and thus increases the resting metabolic rate of body.
Also, the body temperature is related to metabolic rate i.e. low metabolic rate results in low temperature of the core of the body. As yoga works to improve the metabolic rate, it also helps in maintaining a healthy core temperature of body.
