Why You Should Include Turmeric in Your Diet

Pain is a common human condition. It is essentially a warning or an indication of something is wrong around or inside us and that we should avoid such situations or try to get rid of the source of the pain with some home remedies for instance turmeric. We mostly use over-the-counter drugs to overcome this pain. But these drugs have their own side effects.

Owing to its innumerable health benefits, the spice, turmeric has now strongly positioned itself as a “superfood” in the wellness world. It is widely known for its anti-inflammatory effects along with other health benefits too. Until now, it was not so popular ingredient for providing relief from pain, but Cheryl Myers, a natural medicine expert and a nurse, recently defined ways to relieve pain naturally.

She emphasizes how we generally cover the pain by taking prescribed drugs or sometimes, over-the-counter drugs and avoid treating the main cause. Cheryl Myers calls curcumin – an extract from the turmeric – the best-identified painkiller. To clarify the difference between the two, she says that it would take approximately 500 capsules of turmeric to carry the same quantity of curcumin consumed in only one capsule.

BCM-95, a better form of curcumin, which uses turmeric essential oil to improve the efficiency, has found to be highly effective in relieving pain. In a random study to analyze the safety and efficiency of BCM-95 curcumin, rheumatoid arthritis patients were divided into three groups.[1] The first group were given turmeric (500 mg), the 2nd was put on prescribed NSAID, diclofenac sodium (50 mg) and the 3rd group received the combination of the two.

At the end of the 8-week trial, all the groups were examined and found to have equal levels of reduction in the pain and improved functionality. It was also observed that around 14% of the participants, who took the prescribed drug, discontinued the drug because of its side effects. In the BCM-95 curcumin group, no one stopped the medicine.
