According to a recent report, chances of future stroke can be reduced if instant treatment is given for mini-stroke.

A group of neurologists from Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois, said that people having mini-stroke have to face symptoms like trouble in speaking and paralysis that can be recovered within minutes of stroke. This condition of mini-stroke is termed as transient ischemic attack (TIA). However, there are higher chances of having a severe stroke in near future.

Authors reported that the diagnosis of TIA is a sign of medical emergency and this diagnosis could help prevent of future incidence of stroke. Different therapeutic treatments can be administered to lower the risk for severe stroke in future.

According to the neurologists, the strokes are caused due to blood clots that blocks the blood flow in the brain. It was reported by neurologists that the blood clots could result in conditions like TIAs.

According to the reports, people are at a 5-10% risk of having a severe stroke within 30 days of TIA. Moreover, people, who reported severe stroke, said that they had experienced TIA earlier.

According to data, about 200,000 people in the U.S. experience mini-stroke every year. It is recommended by neurologists that prompt treatment of these mini-strokes could help in the prevention of a severe and fatal stroke.

The research team also said, “Patients must be counseled about smoking cessation, proper diet (preferably Mediterranean), regular exercise, maintenance of appropriate BMI (body mass index) and limiting alcohol consumption.”

Neurologists involved in the study were Dr. Camilo Gomez, Dr. Michael Schneck and Dr. Jose Biller.
