Skin care tips to prevent acne breakouts due to your workout regimen

Indulging in exercise regularly is great for your skin, as it is good for your overall health. It helps in regulating hormones in the body, increasing blood circulation and clearing out skin pores to remove all build-up toxins.

  • Start your workout sessions with a washed and moisturized face: If you think sweat alone is causing the problem, you are probably unaware that it is more of what comes in contact with sweat that causes acne breakouts. It is very important to wash your face before starting your daily workout session to get rid of debris, dirt, and bacteria. It is best to avoid wearing makeup to the gym. However, you can apply a non-pore clogging moisturizer which does not have fragrance, phthalates, parabens, etc., all these are toxins to the body, as well as might clog skin pores leading to more breakouts.
  • Wear the right clothes and avoid wearing baseball caps during workout: Several studies have confirmed that wearing tight clothes during working out are responsible for frequent skin breakouts. Wearing baseball caps and tight-fitting clothes that don’t breathe can accumulate bacteria and dead skin cells into the pores. So, you should definitely avoid those tight sportwear and instead wear light, loose and breathable clothing to your gym. Also, don’t wear that baseball cap.
  • Do not touch your face while working out: Our hands are covered with bacteria and other microorganisms because we keep on touching various surfaces such railing of a public staircase, handles of bathroom door, etc. It might not be your intention to transfer those microorganisms and bacteria to the skin pores, but you must be doubly cautioned, especially while working out in gym. Gyms are loaded with bacteria due to so many people sweating on the same gym equipment. It is therefore important that you should sanitize your hands before touching your neck, face, or any other exposed body parts. Always use a sanitizer or a face wipe to disinfect your hands, to prevent any infection due Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteria.
  • Exfoliate your skin regularly: It is important to exfoliate your skin regularly to wash off any dead skin cells and dirt which might be clogging your skin pores. Gentle exfoliation will help in preventing frequent acne breakouts due to regular workout sessions.
