Tips to Fight Fatigue by Dr. Mehmet Oz

Everyone faces fatigue at some or other point of time of his/her life; either because of working overtime or extensive workout, or may be due to some illness. Well, in today’s times, unhealthy lifestyle has emerged as one of the major reasons for fatigue.

However, if a person is experiencing unexpected fatigue, then there are chances that it is caused by some medication or a serious health condition. In this regard, Dr. Oz advises to go to a doctor for a checkup and proper diagnosis, especially if the fatigue is persistent and long-lasting.

Dr. Mehmet Oz suggests following tips that can help you effectively deal with fatigue:

  • Drink Plenty of Water: This would help you keep your body hydrated, thereby allowing you to fight off fatigue. Dehydration is the major cause of fatigue, especially during the scorching days of the summer. It is a general recommendation to drink water at regular intervals throughout the day to avoid dehydration.

Dr. Oz advises, “If you’re not an avid drinker, set a reminder for yourself to refill your water glass with one to two hours, and pay attention to how often you use the bathroom to keep track of your progress. Once you’ve settled into a good rhythm, staying hydrated will soon become second nature.”

  • Eat Foods That Are Rich in Magnesium: Magnesium is essential for the health of bones and muscles as well as the nervous system. Also, it helps in balancing the level of blood sugar. Deficiency of magnesium in the body can lead to fatigue and various health conditions, such as inflammation and type-2 diabetes.

Consuming magnesium-rich foods like almonds, spinach and pinto beans can help manage the normal level of magnesium in the body and prevent fatigue.

  • Go for a Diet Rich in Vitamin B: Vitamin B is essential for providing energy to the body. Multivitamins or foods rich in vitamin B12 can be effective in avoiding fatigue. The major reason for vitamin B12 deficiency is the depletion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. It is common in elderly people.

However, foods with high concentration of vitamin B12 mostly come from animal sources. Chicken, beef and fish along with dairy products like milk and eggs can be helpful in overcoming the vitamin B deficiency and prevent fatigue.

  • Get More Sleep: One of the best ways to fight fatigue is to provide enough amount of rest to the body. If a person takes ample of sleep, he/she can easily avoid fatigue. For this, you can track your duration of sleep, and extend it by half an hour or more if necessary. This can be helpful in fighting against the day-time fatigue experienced during daily chores.

  • Workout Harder: No matter how tired you feel, work out can help you revive your body and get over fatigue. Including workout in your daily schedule can be effective in preventing fatigue.
