Fluoxetine hydrochloride belongs to the class Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) of Antidepressants.  Its mechanism of action is not entirely clear but it is thought to work by increasing the levels of a neurotransmitter, serotonin in the brain by preventing its reabsorption.
